Décembre 1999. Michel Alonzo, bibliothécaire méticuleux, classe le monde en fiches et l’avenir en colonnes. Mais l’an 2000 approche, et avec lui l’angoisse d’un bug informatique. A minuit, la machine tremble, mais c’est l’esprit de Michel qui vacille, se fissure, et bascule. Face à lui, le réel se dérobe. Le voilà Don Quichotte, chevalier du troisième millénaire, dressé contre ses moulins intérieurs, et l’injustice du monde moderne. Sancho Panza n’est autre que Jérôme, son collègue, et Dulcinée, une lectrice dont il est épris. Avec La Cordonnerie, cette errance rebelle se fait ciné-spectacle (leur spécialité?!)?: théâtre, images en cinémascope, bruitages et musique en direct composent cette odyssée idéaliste, de la bibliothèque picarde aux plaines de La Mancha.
