While preparing the exhibition, Eklund has at times found herself looking back to the path that has led to this moment, to the works painted along the way, and to her ever-growing archive, part of which now spills into the gallery as a vast, wall-sized assemblage of objects and paintings.
Eklund’s practice is characterised by the rejection of many artistic conventions, such as seeming suitability of subject matter or restrained and conventional composition, and by a deliberate, feminist subversion of norms.
Eeva-Leena Eklund (b. 1972, Pori) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2003.
Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her works are held in numerous private and major public collections.
In 2020, Eklund became the first Finnish artist invited to present a major solo exhibition in the commission series of EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art and the Saastamoinen Foundation.
