Live at Madetojan Sali: Oulu Sinfonia: Verdi's Requiem

Verdi's Requiem SEASON CONCERT VI Fri 30.10. at 18:30 Madetoja Hall Pablo Mielgo conductor Marjukka Tepponen soprano Melissa Zgouridi mezzo-soprano Markus Nykänen tenor Matti Turunen bass Jyväskylän oopperakuoro Jyväskylä Sinfonia Oulu Sinfonia Program: Giuseppe Verdi: Requiem The colossal success of Aida elevated Giuseppe Verdi to the status of a globally admired opera composer. Upon hearing of the death of the writer Alessandro Manzoni, he ventured into uncharted territory and composed the great Messa da Requiem. The liturgical form did not constrain his dramatic instinct; on the contrary. The overwhelming pathos of the Requiem strikes straight at the heart -- even more piercingly than any of Verdi's operas. Through its vast choral passages, moving arias and majestic interludes, the work lifts the veil between life and death with heartrending intensity, yet offers profound solace. Head start at Restaurant Preludi at 18.00. Discussion of the forthcoming concert. Oulu is the European Capital of Culture in 2026.
