An annual Christmas tradition in Edmonton, Shumka's Nutcracker blends the grace and lyricism of classical movement with the strength and power of Ukrainian character dance, leaving audiences exhilarated and entertained. The talented cast of over 70 features Shumka dancers, youth from the Shumka School of Dance, and the Clara's Dream Choir. Touted as "Canada's Ukrainian Nutcracker," the production is a folk ballet based on the timeless Christmas classic. The production incorporates Ukrainian traditions, character dance, grand orchestral versions of the legendary score with specially added compositions, and Ukrainian symbols woven into lavish sets and costumes. The performance is an emotional presentation of enchantment, embracing a classic tale of young Clara and her dream Prince. A holiday experience audiences will return to again and again. To ensure all patrons are seated comfortably, it is recommended that you all ow extra time to park and get to your seats before the performance is schedu led to begin. Elevator access available to first balcony and escalator to first and second balconies. Washrooms are located in the main lobby on the east & west ends. The lobby a rea is completely accessible with a ramp on the east end leading up to the t heatre entrance doors. Accessible parking is located just to the east of the building or wheelchair patrons may be dropped off at the main or east entrance ramps. The auditorium does not provide wheelchairs to its patrons.
