L’artiste américano-libanais Walid Raad expose une sélection d’œuvres récentes, enracinées dans les guerres qui secouent le Moyen-Orient depuis 40 ans. Une déambulation au cœur de photographies, collages, dessins, textes, sculptures et vidéos, commentés par leur auteur.
L’œuvre du photographe et plasticien Walid Raad prend appui sur un moment charnière de l’histoire – les années 1982-1983, marquées par l’occupation du Liban, les massacres de Sabra et Chatila et l’exil de l’Organisation de Libération de la Palestine vers Tunis – pour en explorer les résonances contemporaines à travers différents espaces et temporalités. Dans les visites guidées qu’il propose, Walid Raad – à la fois archiviste et conteur – raconte des histoires inventées, transmises ou trouvées.

L’artiste est familier de ces formats hybrides, lieu d’une réflexion sur l’art et l’histoire, l’émotion et la mémoire. Les œuvres qu’il présente aujourd’hui arpentent un vaste territoire – du Liban à Tunis en passant par Ljubljana – et embrassent la guerre et la reconstruction au Liban mais aussi l’histoire de l’art dans le monde arabe.
