Sámi Wimme Saari is originally from Kelottijärvi in northwestern Lapland. As a master of traditional yoik, he has also developed a completely unique modern style of yoik, which incorporates influences from contemporary music – and even sound art.

Tapani Rinne has lived in urban Helsinki throughout his adult life, but his roots lie in Satakunta, Western Finland. The vast, open field landscapes of his childhood have probably played a part in the fact that Rinne’s saxophone and clarinet lines convey a strong sense of place, a certain type of Nordic quality.
Saari and Rinne have been making music together for over a quarter of a century and have toured across different continents to perform it. The current line-up of the friends is a duo, Wimme & Rinne, in which the backgrounds and experience of both members come together. The result is music that is both delicate and powerful, and present here and now.
