Producteur, impresario et fondateur de labels majeurs, Norman Granz a accompagné pendant près de quarante ans quelques-unes des plus grandes figures du jazz : Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz, Bill Evans ou encore Wes Montgomery.
Créateur de Clef Records, Verve et Pablo Records, il contribue à faire sortir le jazz des clubs pour l’installer dans des salles comme le Carnegie Hall et dans de grandes tournées internationales avec Jazz at the Philharmonic.

Issu d’une famille juive ayant fui l’antisémitisme en Russie, Norman Granz fut aussi un défenseur de l’égalité entre musiciens noirs et blancs. Lionel Eskenazi retracera son
parcours et, avec lui, une large part de l’âge d’or du jazz américain.
