Famille juive sépharade prospère d’Istanbul, la famille Camondo s’installe à Paris en 1870. Moïse et son cousin Isaac deviennent de grands collectionneurs d’art et d’objets précieux. Décédé prématurément en 1911, Isaac lègue plus de 850 œuvres au Louvre, tandis que Moïse fait don de son impressionnante collection à la France après la mort de son fils, Nissim, durant la Première Guerre mondiale. Les derniers descendants de la famille sont assassinés à Auschwitz-Birkenau. Leur demeure parisienne, au 63 rue de Monceau, devenue le musée Nissim de Camondo, est aujourd’hui le témoin silencieux de cette histoire tragique, incarnant la mémoire d’une famille disparue.
