At Annantalo Arts Centre in Helsinki: The book is open – come on in!

About this event
On Friday, 20 November 2026, The book is open – come on in! comes to Annantalo Arts Centre in Helsinki. Admission costs nothing.
The Pro lastenkirjallisuus children’s literature association will host a storytelling workshop for children at Annantalo.
Step into another world by opening a book and reading it or listening to it. There are many different ways to venture into the world of books. When a book is opened, it is filled with letters and pictures. Who makes them all? Who reads the book, and how does it end up in the reader’s hands? There are lots of questions and lots of answers to think about together.

Workshop participants may also, if they wish, step into the shoes of a critic, illustrator or writer and explain how they would narrate and illustrate the same story – in other words, to write a story on top of another story or take a look behind the narrative.
Books do not always have to tell you everything, but sometimes it would be nice to know what is going through the characters’ minds at any given moment, or where they are from. Perhaps the workshop participants know something about this?
Stories can also break free from books and be turned into plays. During the workshop, participants can perform short scenes from the book if they feel inspired to act.
We are open to suggestions, and the workshop will take shape according to the participants’ ideas.
